PewPewPew 2 officially released on February 16, 2024:
There are 2 versions of the app available on Google’s PlayStore:
They are functionally the same, with the Supporter Edition removing ads and added a couple options.
Some of the features of PewPewPew 2 include:
- Support for folding phones
(Pixel Fold users rotate to portrait) - Share button at the scoreboard to show all your friends how much of a winner you are
- Scoreboard tracks modifiers so scores can be compared fairly
- Two game modes: Classic PewPewPew & Arcade
- Leveling “Pewer”
- Homing Pews
- Autofire toggle
It’s not hard to find a more polished game on the PlayStore, but it’s next to impossible to a game that doesn’t play video ads every few minutes, or get you to buy coins & gems to unlock more of the game.
PewPewPew2: You-No-Pay Edition, has a small banner ad at the bottom of the screen that’s easy to ignore and does not interfere with your game.
I began development of this game with 2 purposes:
- Create the “PewPewPew” I wanted to make
The original Pew Pew Pew was a project for class
We had to design a game that met some basic criteria, and using MIT's App Inventor.
I enjoyed the experience, but felt limited by the project deadline and the limitations of App Inventor, which I will say is a wonderful program to get started in the basics of programming. It's also able to generate an app bundle that can be uploaded to the store . . . which I did with PewPewPew.
As impressive as App Inventor was, after graduation, I had wondered what I could do with real development software, and no project deadline.
So after work, I began learning C# and how to use it with Unity.
- Make a game I wanted to play
If you have an android device, give the free version a try.
If you like it, great! If not, that’s fine too.
There will still continue to be occasional updates.
Thanks for checking out PewPewPew 2
